Perhaps
the Greatest Achievement of the Conservancy so far...
(click here to skip to more recent accomplishments) |
| Perhaps
the greatest achievement of the Conservancy so far was to bring a long
underappreciated segment of open space, known as the Bussey Brook Meadow,
into
the Arboretum Indenture, and to construct welcoming gates and a handicapped
accessible path through the meadow leading from Forest Hills Station to the South Street Gate of the Arboretum. |
The
Grand Opening - the day the Bussey Brook Meadow and the Blackwell Path
became part of the Arnold Arboretum and a permanent public park. |
| Since completing the
handicapped accessible Footpath between Forest Hills MBTA Station and
the
Arboretum entrance on South Street, the APC has continued to
work closely with the City of Boston, the MBTA, the Boston Parks
and Recreation Department, the Arboretum staff, and Arboretum Director Robert
Cook.
Together,
we have:
- Commissioned
a botanical
inventory of Bussey Brook Meadow,
- Created
wildflower identification
signs in the Meadow,
- Hosted
numerous nature walks and
bird walks,
- Hosted
clean-ups with Plant Yourself in the Park and with the Neighborhood
Youth Corps,
- Hosted
educational programs with the
MIT
Freshman Students Community Service Program and the High
Achievers School on
Walk Hill Street'
- Also,
we have helped the MBTA with their update of the directional
signage in and
close to the MBTA station to direct travelers to the Blackwell Footpath
and Arboretum.
